Purple Vintage Space Princess Meets Floyd Lee OfThe Mississippi Delta Blues
I truly love how the universe works! Each day when I wake up I start out by creating my day to be exciting and full of surprises.
Therefore, each day I expect only good things to come my way and I always expect to meet wonderful people.
Today was one of those days!
I was taking the subway at Grand Central and I happened to come across the amazing musician & performer:
FLOYD LEE of The Mississippi Delta Blues Band.
I felt the urge to approach him even though it seemed like he had already stopped performing for the day – I’m so glad that I did!
WHAT AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE WE HAD!
Not only did he share 2 of his sensational blues CD’s with me but we had such an
enlightening conversation that was full of life and love.
At 72 years old, Floyd has more energy and spunk than most teenagers I have met.
His musical talent is out of this world!
In 1972 He moved to Harlem New York and fell in love with musical culture of the city. Floyd was one of the first musicians to start the ART FOR TRANSIT, now called MUSIC UNDER NEW YORK. Since then, he has been playing blues at subway stations, including Times Square and Grand Central Station as an official musician of MTA’s Music Under New York. He has been playing in the subway for almost 20 years. He also plays at clubs, street fairs, and teaches children at schools in Harlem. He once played for an inauguration of the mayor of New York City as well.
Floyd is not only a cousin of John Lee Hooker but a long-established blues man himself, having played with Jimmy Reed, Wilson Pickett and Bo Diddley. He even has a movie soon to be released, “Full Moon Lightnin’” (www.fullmoonlightnin.com), based on his 60-year-long search for his family. Stay tuned for release dates.
I’m thrilled to have him as a new friend and as a mentor!
