Johnny Brooklyn – a Local Greenpoint Rap Star

Johnny Brooklyn – a Local Greenpoint Rap Star

Earlier today, I was walking back from selling some of my vintage clothing items at
Beacons Closet when out of no where Johnny Brooklyn stops me in my path on the street!

I just had to laugh because this is the 3rd time he has stopped me in my path this month. He always has is boombox in tow as he plays his latest recordings for me live as we walk down Manhattan Ave! Its quite the scene, I always feel like I am a tv show when I see him.
He constantly entertains me!

Anyway, come on down to The Habitat this Saturday at 10:30 pm and check out my sister’s late night show: Nightly Candy With Nana Adwoa! It will be full of entertainment! I am the musical guest for the evening!

Wonderous Wednesday!

My magical day has just begun and already its been filled with joy, success, enlightenment and peace!

I started the day by working on some business online and got a few sketches done for my new GREEN and environmentally friendly jewelry line with sis. Its well on its way and I am enjoying every minute of the process! How we even got started on this is pure universal magic in itself!Another business venture! FORAGING ONWARD!
More on that later!

Then I skipped over a few blocks down to the Open Center -83 Spring St.
Its NY leading center of holistic learning and world culture! Now I will consider it one of my homes. By the summer’s end I plan to have my Reiki certification!!!
So I spent over half an hour in the meditation room and I had the whole room to myself. I visualized my dreams, focused on my desires and meditated on the health of well being of my loved ones and myself…amongst many other things!
I connected with the higher source that unites is all together and became extremely peaceful, knowing that all is well, even when life throws me challenges, I can handle it and can always lean on the higher power for strength!

After meditating I went to Ceci Cela for some earl grey tea! As I am parked outside soaking in some warm sun on the bench a gentleman walks by me and asks for directions to the lower east side! The rest is history! I love how the universe works!
My new friend John Ysasu!
He is visiting from Paris for a week and is a fashion buyer- both vintage and high end designer clothing! Right up my alley!
I can’t wait to show him items from my collection, he will buy some pieces before he takes off.
He has great style and I am glad that we met! I also got to practice my French today! I can’t wait to go to Paris!
Wowzah!

So my new friend John will be coming to my sister’s comedy late night show this Saturday at
The Habitat 988 Manhattan Ave. 10:30 pm! I am the musical guest!
Be There!
More to come in a bit!

What’s going on in my world today?

The question is: what kind of magic do I expect to occur in my life today?
Tell me dear universe…

Dad had a birthday yesterday – happy birthday!!!

Last night’s Champion Coffee exhibition- an evening hotspot!

Congrats!

Last night, Manhattan Ave btw Clay and DuPont was the biggest attraction in a long time.

As red and white wine was served and countertop adorned with brie, tasty crackers and delicious strawberries. The weather was beautiful so people were able to sit comfortably outside in the yard area which happens to be extremely beautiful and well groomed! Most definitely Champion has a huge advantage over the other local coffee shops! The outdoor space takes the cake for a being a lovely gathering spot!

Members of Greenpoint community came together to support local artist: Joey Parlett.

Joey was everything that I expected – talented, excited about his artwork and forthcoming about where is inspiration comes from for his art. It was a delight meeting him and look forward to future collaborations.

Check out more of his work on his blog:

Thank you to Champion Coffee for making local artists stand out! When is the next event?

Champion Coffee – a cup a cup a cup a CUP!

I love my neighborhood coffee shops! I am a frequent customer at Champion Coffee located at 11-08 Manhattan Ave

http://www.championcoffee.com/

My favorite baristas- Allison, Lillith and Mim! They make the place fabulous and welcoming for all to come in and enjoy a sweet taste or to just come in, say hello and shoot the breeze!

Tonight there is an opening 7-10pm
“Excuses”
Drawings and Prints by Joey Parlett
His art looks original and very personal! I look forward to meeting him and finding out what he is all about!

See how a local coffee shop can bring people together? Great job to the owner, kudos!

Owner, Talitha is one cool chick who also happens to be from my home own on Amherst, Ma! Actually she is from Leverett, Ma which is the neighboring town. She used to own a cafe in L.I.C a few years ago called 10-63 cafe right on Jackson Ave! She still keeps some of the same eats that she had on her old menu like the French toast stuffed with ricotta cheese and maple syrup- sliced bananas on the side. Yum yummy ass! To die for!

There is a nice crowd of people that gather her as well! For Champion being directly in front of the infamous Greenpoint Hotel, the warm energy of the staff and customers bypass any nonsense that could emerge from those scary hotel doors! For the love of God, when will it be shut down?!?!?!?

Regardless, come on down for a cup of coffee or for a smooth latte. For about $2 – $5 you can get some amazing tasting coffee and toast/bagel all from Tom Cats bakery! Not a bad deal if you are wise! Don’t forget to he your coffee card stamped! Its worth it when you are ready to get your free coffee once you have bought up ten delicious coffee drinks!

Cheers!

My friend: Mr Walter Witko – Go ahead with yo’ bad self!!!

On my way back from the city I was walking down Manhattan Ave and saw m dear friend Walter! He is 86 years young and full of bright life! He lives in my building and we became friends over what else, our love of music!

Hewas born and raised in Greenpoint, right on Milton St. He has spunk and a flair for life and for fashion too, I must say! Check out his hat – go ahead Walter!

He is an accordion player who made his living off of his talents! A true inspiration and a pioneer. He used to run a school in the Bronx where he would teach children how to play the accordion! Such power he has! We took a nice stroll back to our street and then he surprised me with a beautiful gift of guitar instructional books that he put aside for me! I was touched beyond belief. Its so nice to know when people are thinking about you.

I brought my guitar down to his space a few weeks ago and gave him a solo concert!
It was one of my best and favorite performances! It was real and very pure! He enjoyed it greatly and is highly supportive of my talent and my dreams! He is like the wise grandfather that I never had! These moments are priceless!
I am one blessed gal!

He has promised to teach me the accordion if I teach him how to use a computer! We have a good deal! I can’t wait to start my lessons.

***********************************************************************************
Next time we meet we are discussing finding him TRUE LOVE! He is open and down for meeting the right lady! We are very honest when we have our talks and I told him that if he is still breathing on this earth and alive then he deserves to have anything and everything that he desires! Including LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!
I am here to assist him in that mission!
So, to all you ladies out there: I’m hooking Walter up!!!!
Let the process begin….

Basking in the heart of Soho! – Ceci Cela and Dean & Deluca

In the HEART OF SOHO

Every time I enter Soho I get this overwhelming feeling of excitement. There is always something going on here!

I started my morning with a good cup of joe from the French Bakery,
Ceci Cela.

Is a darling cafe full of little tasty baguettes, coffees, croissants and delicate pastries. One has not lived until you enter this chic spot! Go today and become the posh little *star* that is screaming to emerge from your existance!!!

Its right at the Spring St. Stop on the 6 train…0n the uptown side! Just look up when you are 0ut of the subway and then you are there!
Voila!

Dean & Deluca – another fabulous place in Soho that everyone needs to experience at least once! If you shop right you can still find items that won’t empty out your precious bank accounts. Shop for your groceries or simply enter the shop for a quick sushi lunch or just take 3 dollars or less and enjoy a cookie, some cheese bread or brown cow yogurt! Mmmm!

Its the ultimate food museum lots of treats, breads, meats, and much much more!!! Such hot imported goodness. Then you will be a member of the Dean & Deluca fan club!
Sexiness!

Crap Mountain… A.K.A Crash Mansion

What a crock of sh*t!!!!!!

Never in my life have I been to such a lame venue for performing. Thank goodness for the creation of blogs – now I can just type my review for all to read and not hold back one bit!
Here she goes…

What is the deal with Crash Mansion?
Its much too big and in my opinion gives off the impression of a trashy gathering hole. It looks nice from the outside though. Perhaps under different management it could be a winner but its not lookin’ up just yet. I don’t care about the celebrities who have apparently ventured into this place… it still doesn’t change the fact that it sucks. Sorry!
A spontaneous explosion should occur and just crash the whole building down…with no one in it of course. Well, except for the promoters of last nights charade. They probably wouldn’t be missed. *smiles* kidding… not really! Ah…
I should have known by the ridiculous name of this fairly new “hotspot” that it was a disaster
waiting to happen. From the moment I entered the space I knew that it was pathetic.
Located at 199 Bowery right in the heart of Soho a lovely location. To start the night off right, I arrived there to find that the promoter didn’t even have me listed as a performer even though we e-mailed and talked via telephone for confirmation of my performance for the evening. GRRRRRRRRR, I hate unprofessional people. What was worse was that the “promoter” was no where to be found. Called his phone….kept ringing twice then went busy! WHAT???????
No one knew where he was (another big red flag) and no one was really trying to assist me either (another briiiiiiiiight red flag in my face).

i was finally led to another “promoter” who didn’t have the slightest clue on what was going on at the Mansion or even with his own existence for that matter. He looked like he was on some serious narcotics. The look in his eyes was dismal… like he was about to beat someone and then throw up or something. Yes, some kind of weird scary combination like that. Yikes! He tried to get some fresh attitude with me when I started inquiring about my performance for the night. He was completely useless! I was done after that!
With the addition of horrible music playing in the Blvd section of the mansion, super chatty ambiguously gay bouncers (are you gay or are you not…. I am SO curious….. do tell) , empty rooms that should be full of people who want to be entertained – it was a clear sign that we needed to turn around and go. So we did just that. Best decision ever! Never will I enter such a disorganized, good for nothing, crap-ass environment. :)

The evening however turned out to be quite beautiful, that for which I am very thankful for. my friend Clara soon after mentioned that she had a friend who worked at a beautiful venue called: Jadis.
Jadis is located at 42 Rivington St. The minute you walk into the space you feel its alluring vintage qualities and its welcoming nature. I was in love right away!
She inquired to the owner asking about her friend and as it turned out her friend’s last day was last week – he was no longer there. But that didn’t stop us! She briefly told Gerald (the owner) about our mishap of an evening and immediately he agreed to have me have my own impromptu intimate performance right then and there.
I was ready to go! I had a sip of sparkling white wine, got my fingers in place and started my performance.
I was well on my way! It was like magic! I had the best time singing out my songs to the new audience. I made some fans and will be back to perform again with Gerald who also is a musician. I can’t wait to blend my sound with his trumpet!

Look at that! The night ended so wonderfully. I really thank Clara for being an angel and suggesting that we go to Jadis! Now not only is it a new connection for me but oh so much more….
Its a beautiful thing when a single event can turn out to be so amazing. Awful to amazing!
I love it.
I really hope that no one ventured out to see me at the Crap Mountain. My apologies if you did…
ONWARD!
